/ReadThis weekend, the second round of the European Le Mans Series takes place in Imola (I). For Fabio Scherer, this race is a highlight. Imola is one of his favourite circuits.
Fabio Scherer will contest the second race of this year’s ELMS season for his team Inter Europol Competition this weekend. The venue is the Grand Prix circuit in Imola (I). Scherer still knows this circuit from Formula 4 days.
“Imola is definitely one of my favourite circuits,” says Scherer. “It’s fast, fluid and it’s uphill and downhill. It’s a real old-school track that certainly offers a lot of driving fun in LMP2, but is also very challenging at the same time. Imola doesn’t offer much space for overtaking. That’s why the traffic and the speed differences will be a tricky thing. But I’m looking forward to this race, which is also a preparation for us for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which will take place on 11/12th June.”
Scherer will share the cockpit of the #43 Oreca LMP2 with his teammates David Heinemeier Hansson from Denmark and Pietro Fittipaldi from Brazil, as he did at the season opener in Le Castellet. For Scherer, supported by STOBAG and ATS Banding System, things did not go according to plan in the first race. Two punctures slowed down the three drivers. Eleventh place was definitely not what Scherer & Co. had set themselves as their goal.
“We had a lot of bad luck in the first race. I hope that will be different this time and that the race luck will be on our side. We are a strong team. The atmosphere within the team is very good. At 22, I’m the youngest of the three of us, but the team has already given me a lot of responsibility. That makes me happy. And that’s why I want to give a top performance every time. I hope I can do that this weekend as well.”
The start of the four-hour race at Imola is at 11.30 am on Sunday 15th May. The race can be followed on Motorsport TV and livestream (www.europeanlemansseries.com). The German channel Motorvision will also broadcast from Imola.
