After a successful test day, Fabio Scherer is confident heading into the first weekend of the European Le Mans Series at Le Castellet, where the first round of the 2022 season will take place on Sunday.

Fabio Scherer is contesting a double program this season. In addition to the IMSA rounds in the USA, the 22-year-old Swiss is contesting the European Le Mans Series for the Inter Europol Competition team. The first race takes place this weekend in Le Castellet (F). Scherer shares the cockpit of the #43 Oreca LMP2 with his teammates David Heinemeier Hansson from Denmark and Pietro Fittipaldi from Brazil.

For Scherer, who is supported by STOBAG and ATS Banding System, it is the first race in the ELMS. But not the first for the Inter Europol Competition team. Scherer took part in the WEC season opener at Sebring at the end of March as a substitute driver for Alex Brundle (GB). So Scherer already knows the team, which is certainly an advantage. In addition, the team tested one day at Le Castellet this week. According to Scherer, this prologue went very positively.

“We did good preparation work,” Scherer says. “I am very confident for the race on Sunday. We are ready and I think on par with the other top teams in terms of speed.”

Scherer is still familiar with the Le Castellet circuit from FIA Formula 3. So the 5.861 km circuit in the south of France is not new territory for the former DTM and WEC driver.

“I have to say that the track is really fun with the LMP2. Especially the fast corners after the long Mistral straight. I’m looking forward to the race and hope we can get a top result for the opener.”

The start of the four-hour race at Le Castellet is at 11am on Easter Sunday. The race can be followed on Motorsport TV and livestream (www.europeanlemansseries.com). The German channel Motorvision will also broadcast from Le Castellet.
