Fabio Scherer is looking forward to the next challenge in the coming days. At the 12 Hours of Sebring as part of the IMSA Endurance Cup, the Swiss LMP2 driver from High Class Racing is aiming for a podium.

The 24 Hours of Daytona will be followed by the next classic race in the USA for Fabio Scherer (22). This weekend Fabio Scherer will take over the cockpit of High Class Racing’s LMP2 Oreca 07 for the second time as part of the IMSA Endurance Cup in Sebring/Florida. The professional racing driver from Engelberg, who is supported by STOBAG, ATS Banding System and Wexler, will race for the first time in Sebring. Scherer only knows the track from the simulator so far.

“I drove a lot of laps virtually,” says Scherer. “And with today’s simulations, which are very close to reality, it gives you a good feeling. Nevertheless, I have a lot of respect for this track. Especially because the surface is very bumpy and consists of two-thirds asphalt and one-third concrete slabs. This mixture is tricky. I already noticed that in the simulator. Especially when it is wet. Besides, there is hardly any grip next to the racing line.”

Scherer will share the cockpit at the second round of the 2022 IMSA Endurance Cup with his two Danish teammates Anders Fjordbach and Dennis Andersen. He has already driven with them at the 24 Hours of Daytona at the end of January.

“The race will be very challenging,” says Scherer. “I expect to do six to seven stints. But I’ve settled into the team very well in the meantime. And I have also internalised the US motorsport customs once again. There are a few differences compared to the European motorsport I’m used to. I’m thinking of the lap-back procedure, for example.”

The start of the 70th edition of the 12 Hours of Sebring will be on Saturday (19 March) at 10:10 a.m. local time (3:10 p.m. CET). The race can be watched live and in full on the official livestream on IMSA.tv.
