For Fabio Scherer, the first race weekend in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup went anything but according to plan. His first race for Team Fach Auto Tech at the Red Bull Ring almost didn’t happen. The 22-year-old from Engelberg, who recently returned from quarantine in Portugal, still had too high values when he was tested on Corona on Friday. Green light was only given on Sunday morning after another test: Scherer was allowed to start in the second round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, but because he had missed the qualifying on Saturday, he had to start from the back.
Scherer’s Porsche debut ultimately ended in 20th place despite a flat spot at the start of the race. After all that the WEC driver had experienced in the past weeks, he was relieved to be allowed to take part in the race. “This whole Corona thing is very punishing,” says Scherer. “I never had any symptoms, but it can really get on your nerves when you’re not allowed to race and you don’t know if the next test is positive or negative. I am glad that it worked out in the end and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all people who did everything possible to allow me to take part in the race. Under these circumstances, P20 is fine. Now I hope that everything will go back to normal next weekend at the second race in Spielberg and that I can attack again as usual.”
