In less than two weeks, Fabio Scherer will finally start the season with the official WEC testing duties in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium (26/27 April). To make the most of the time until then, Scherer took part in the season opener of the autobau Swiss Kart Championship last weekend. And this was full of success! The former DTM driver won all three rounds of the OK Seniors and is now even leading the championship after the first race weekend with the maximum score of 75 points.

“It was fun to compete in a kart race again,” says Scherer. “For me, it is still the best training. And I also enjoyed racing against former colleagues.”

Scherer was driving a new kart from “Kart Republic” at his guest start and first had to get used to his new equipment. Besides, the conditions at 7 Laghi in Italy were far from ideal.

“It’s been a while since my last kart race in continuous rain,” says Scherer. “But I felt comfortable very quickly and got on well with the new kart very quickly even in the wet.”

Whether Scherer will contest any more races in the autobau Swiss Kart Championship this year is still open at the moment. “I’ll decide spontaneously.” Scherer will definitely not be at the only SKM round on Swiss soil on 25 September in Wohlen. “We’ll be racing in Fuji that weekend,” Scherer clarifies.
