It’s time to get serious. The long-awaited WEC season finally begins for Fabio Scherer on Monday with two days of testing at Spa-Francorchamps. The anticipation is great. After all, Scherer has only been allowed to take a seat in his Orcea 07 from Team United Autosports once due to the Corona crisis.

“I’m really looking forward to this test and I’m excited to see what we can expect there. As it is, the original power reduction in combination with the new Goodyear tyres has not proven to be sufficient. So we will now be running with the Le Mans kit, meaning less downforce, in all races.”

Scherer knows the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, which will host the 6-hour race the following weekend (30 April/1 May), from his Formula 3 days.

“I have good memories of Spa. And for me as a rookie, it’s of course also a bit of an advantage when the first race of the season takes place on a track that I already know.”

Scherer, his team United Autosports and his two teammates Filipe Albuquerque and Phil Hanson naturally want to make the most efficient use of the official test sessions on 26/27 April. “We have a clear goal in mind,” says Scherer. “We want to work forward. This includes practising pit stops with driver changes. The focus is also on the new Goodyear tyres. I actually got on very well with them during the last test. Like any tyre, they degrade. But compared to the tyres I’ve had the last few years, they make a solid impression on me.”
