ADAC Formula 4 race winner, Fabio Scherer, is aiming to put his strong pre-season testing pace to good use when the 2017 championship kicks off at Oschersleben this weekend.

Fabio has joined the US Racing squad for the upcoming 21-race season and his speed in pre-season testing has given the 17-year-old reason to be optimistic as he looks to build on a promising debut season of single-seater racing in 2016.

In six official ADAC F4 test sessions that were held at Oschersleben this month, the former Swiss National Karting Champion finished inside the top six places at four of them and his best cumulative lap time was good enough to place him as the second fastest driver out of the 26 that took part in all the sessions.

“Overall, the test was really positive for me and my feeling in the car was always good,” the Swiss driver said. “I’m happy going to the first round this weekend and that’s how every driver wants to feel before they start a championship.”
Fabio, who got to establish a strong working relationship with some key members of his new US Racing team as they engineered him to a race-winning debut at two rounds of the F4 UAE Championship in February and March, recognises he still needs to make some improvements to his driving if he’s going to make his mark in the ADAC F4 series this season.

He said: “I think there is one thing that I would like to improve from my side and that’s putting all of the track sectors together to improve my lap times. I’m working hard on that requirement because I know that will make me even faster.”

“During testing, one of my biggest goals was modifying my driving style so that I am less aggressive and easier on the tyres. That feeling is now quite good and I think there is even more potential to come because the Pirelli tyres are quite special and they have a particular wear characteristic.”
After comfortably settling into his new team, establishing a strong understanding with his engineers and completing a tough physical training programme to prepare for the demands of the 2017 racing season, Fabio, who is supported by Stobag and ATS, is focused on delivering a strong performance at Oschersleben this weekend.

“We’ve done a lot of testing at Oschersleben and it’s a track I really enjoy,” he said. “It has a lot of quick corners and, even though it doesn’t look like it, it’s quite technical. That’s what I like.”

“After testing, I guess the top-five is the target for the first round. Maybe we can get higher than that when everything is working well but the times have been very close and theoretically there are a lot of drivers that can win the championship. We’ll see how the first weekend unfolds.”
