As part of his preparations for the upcoming ADAC F4 season, Fabio contested two rounds of the Formula 4 UAE Championship in a car run in collaboration with US Racing.
Fabio impressed on the first round at the Yas Marina Circuit [10-11 Feb], claiming a win and a second place from the weekend’s four races. Here’s Fabio’s summary of his second appearance at the circuit on 10-11 March.
“Last weekend I raced at the final round of the Formula 4 UAE Championship. It was a great experience and I definitely feel like I learned a lot as I prepare for the German F4 season that starts at the end of April.
“I did four races at Yas Marina with my 2017 team, US Racing, as part of a collaboration with the Rasgaira team. The US Racing team boss, Gerhard Ungar, and my engineer and mechanics all joined me in Abu Dhabi so it was a great opportunity to get to know them and understand how they work.
“I finished P4 in two of the races on the short south track at Yas Marina but unfortunately I retired from the other two after suffering contact. That was a shame because my speed was good all weekend and I was determined to finish all the races. But I have still taken lots of positives from Abu Dhabi.
“I drove the quickest lap of the weekend in qualifying at Yas Marina and I was particularly pleased that I could join all of the sectors together for a really fast lap. Everything is very close in German F4, so being able to put a whole lap together will be super important this season.
“I was also pleased that I could improve some areas of my driving at the weekend. Having four tests and four races during a weekend gives you plenty of seat time and you can make some little adjustments. That’s what I did with my team we improved the car and my driving performance as well. That was a very good feeling.
“Overall, I think my racing weekend in Abu Dhabi was very good training for me. I will have done eight F4 races before the German season starts and I’ve now spent lots of quality time with my team – Gerhard and my engineers Hendrik Limmer and Douglas Sevensson. They know about my driving style and I understand how they work. It’s a good partnership already!
“Special thanks to everyone at US Racing and my sponsors, Stobag and ATS for their continued support.”
